HARD FACTS
1. All diseases can be associated with magnesium deficiency.
2. Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body.
3. Magnesium deficiency is usually misdiagnosed as it does not appear in blood tests.
4. After oxygen, water, and food, magnesium may be our most critical element.
How would you even know if you had a magnesium deficiency?
Most general practitioners do not include magnesium tests during a routine blood panel, so how would a doctor know if a patient is deficient? Many researchers believe magnesium deficiency is connected to more diseases than other nutrients.
When we don't test for it, we guess. Magnesium deficiency is so wildly overlooked that it leads to unnecessary pharmaceutical prescriptions.
Magnesium is your most vital mineral and helps others, such as sodium, potassium and calcium.
Thirst and hunger can be important indicators. Many people feel dehydrated and thirsty, even though they drink a lot of water.
The missing element is a lack of nutrients and electrolytes, mainly magnesium.
Symptoms
Leg cramps and muscle twitching can initially occur as most of your magnesium is stored in the tissues, so this can be the first place of symptoms.
Loss of appetite, nausea, weakness and fatigue follow more severe deficiencies. Then as the lack of magnesium becomes significant, we see abnormal heart rhythms, muscle tension,
seizures and spasms.
A magnesium deficiency is hard to pinpoint because it can affect every part of the body. Remember, magnesium is needed by every cell in the body. For one person, the symptoms could arise in the brain, and for another, in the gut. Taking a step back to assess can help, rather than assuming I have a neurological or digestive condition. The answer could be as simple as a lack of minerals.
From brain function to enzymatic function, magnesium plays a vital systemic role. Even within your digestive system, magnesium plays a big part.
Magnesium aids the synthesis of fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
The brain can be particularly affected. A mineral deficiency can cause confusion, foggy thinking, depression, and hallucinations.
Osteoporosis
When magnesium is short, we lose more calcium in the urine. Therefore, the lack of magnesium can cause tooth decay, osteoporosis, poor bone development, and slow fractures and other breaks healing.
